At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, we have developed a novel and improved slant solid target to direct fit into a traditional cyclotron target (F18,N13..etc) slot without a costly beamline addition/setup. This novel design is based on our earlier work on slanted solid target design for the beamline1.
In this target, a unique cooling arrangement makes a small and compact target size achievable. The center of the target to the front vacuum foil is 1.8 inches. It is similar to the traditional targets. The advantages of this target are 100 & 200 slanted target head, water-cooled front vacuum foil for energy degradation, easy target loading, auto target drop and its adaptability for integration into standard target package available from various cyclotron manufacturers.
